The elderly veteran came to the bench on Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House every day. And every day a Marine guard would walk by to report for duty.
One day in mid November the old fellow gestured to the young Marine and asked "Say, can you tell me is President Bush in the White House?"
The Marine replied, "No sir, Mr Bush was defeated in the election and he is no longer the President. He is not here."
The next day the elderly veteran, again asked the Marine,
"Young man, is Mr Bush in the White House today?"
Again the Marine replied, "No sir. Mr Bush did not win the election. He is no longer President and he is not here."
The next day, the elderly gent AGAIN, stopped the Marine and asked, "Say young fellah, is Mr Bush in the White House?"
The Marine, by now a bit puzzled, replied, "No sir, he was defeated in the election. Mr Bush is not here.'
The Marine figured the old guy had a bad memory, but he inquired, "Why sir, do you ask me that same question about Mr Bush every day?"
The old geezer smiled and replied, "Oh, I know George W. Bush is not here. I know he did not win re-election. I just love to hear you say it."
