Some observations:

A bunch of conventional wisdoms fell by the wayside from "huge turnout is good for the Democrats" to "undecideds break for the challenger".

A 200 thousand vote shift to Kerry in Ohio would have given him victory in this election, while Bush won decisively the popular vote. Time to either get rid of the electoral college or at least require a proportional apportionment of electoral votes in all states.

Finally, congratulations to heronwater who came amazingly close to predicting this election across the board:
