Don't feel alone. In my travels, I've found that not more than one in one hundred people do. It's an arcane term that I only stumbled upon within the last couple of years, and I've been reading about the malfeasance of governments for 40 years now.
The essence of this black art is summed up rather neatly by the motto of Mossad, Israel's equivalent of the U.S. CIA.
By means of deception, thou shalt wage war." In fact, that motto is ensconsed in the entryway to the Mossad headquarters.
[In distinction, the motto at the C.I.A., engraved in stone in the lobby of the Langley headquarters, is "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32 (Propaganda at its finest, n'est pas?)]
False flag operations can be defined succinctly as operations carried out by secret government services or agents which are blamed on the enemies that state.

OK, that's some pretty tough sledding. Let's just say that I am convinced that 9/11/01 could not possibly have been pulled off without secret government intervention.
