Keep in mind that I'm commenting from the perspective of what works for a viable business model, since a model that can't cover costs much less provide a profit isn't of much use to anyone... at least, not for very long.
Define "very long". It worked pretty well for about 5 years in the late '90s for a lot of .bombs. All it takes is a willing stream of suck, er, investors who made too much money with too little sense.

>>Then why not simply kill all the political threads right now, throw off their posters, and be done with it? You claim we are far more trouble than we are worth.

That's your characterization, not mine.

Dave, I can't count the number of times Admin has said that 95% of the trouble on the site comes from the political threads. Bob turned GWB into a free-fire zone to be rid of the headache.

It's been said to me in PM. I bet if you were to ask others on this thread if they had seen similar text, the answers would be heavily yes.

The political threads have value in the correct model. Would you argue that the stock-specific threads were of any value (to investors) when they were allowed to be overrun with partisan politics that had nothing whatsoever to do with the topic?
May I point out that that is EXACTLY what happened to a number of them and Admin (not youat the time, I believe) let it happen. That's one advantage of the Jill model: She'd pull your plug if you kept doing that.

>What does "some level" mean?

I couldn't say with an specificity. Obviously Bob is very oriented to making the interface efficient and user-friendly. I'm confident he'll maintain that approach when linking the topical sites together within the user interface. It comes naturally to him.

The basic questions for me aren't interface; the interface works fine. The problem is getting called down for doing something you had been previously told BY ADMIN was not a problem.

You guys have the right to make the rules however you want them. But we have a right for them to be such that the outcomes of our actions are predictable in advance. That's what I see lacking.

And saying "We'll get to that someday" isn't much use if someday never comes or if you step on a landmine you didn't even know was there and get terminated before that day.

Let's see, the latest change is "Don't post personal info even if it's in a post on SI's disks." I can see so many problems of interpretation and traps with that you wouldn't believe it.
