Bear in mind that during the 1995 wafer shortage, Intel did not qualify MEMC. They initiated a dialog late in that shortage, but it did not lead to qualification, as the analyst's report made clear. The report is consistent with the story on the street. MEMC is certainly a state of the art producer of polished wafers, but some questions have surfaced on epi quality & performance (relative to competition) before. Rumor has it that epi performance precipitated the first Intel/MEMC divorce.
