Hi, Doug! The Italian facility belonged to DNS, which was the first supplier that Huels purchased, later combining with Monsanto Electronic Materials to form MEMC. MEMC had a relationship with Ethyl on granular polysilicon for some years, working to perfect the process. It should be an advantage for them if ever complete, since it allows more poly in the melt (the little beads fill the puller more completely than chunk poly) and thus longer crystals. The higher throughput/productivity is an advantage because crystal pulling is one of the highest cost steps. The extra surface area of beads carries a higher risk of contamination and that's offset the desire to use granular for most producers. A great technological advantage if successful, tho. Not sure where they are on this project, but the expansion of Ethyl capacity, post MEMC purchase, indicates their faith in its potential. I'd be interested in anything quantitative on Huels capacity or ability to guarantee capacity. Huels is a petro-chemical company, so they may make some raw materials that support someone else who in turns allocates a guaranteed amount of poly (i.e. it may be a relationship issue instead of physical capability). Good luck trading, Doug.
