MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 1996--Sun
Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) announced today that its Board of
Directors approved a systematic repurchase program which will enable
Sun to systematically repurchase in the open market a portion of the
shares of Common Stock which it expects to issue under its 1990
Long-Term Equity Incentive Plan.

The dollar amount of the repurchases under this systematic
program over approximately the next three years will not exceed in
the aggregate $450,000,000. Sun's previously approved systematic
repurchase program related to this equity plan was terminated by the
Board in 1993.
