(OT) DOS You posted 'That being said, if DOS had never been bought by Gates from IBM and had been allowed instead to languish with IBM the computer world would have been better off with Apple's technology.'. Actually, my recollection is that IBM was shopping for an operating system for personal computers (they actually thought PCs would have a limited future) and approached Gates. He knew where to get one, bought it and turned around and had the brilliant idea of licensing the O/S instead of reselling it. The rest is history!
