This could mean a very ugly day tomorrow. Flaherty is going to get an earful from his buddies on Bay Street, particularly since the research shows that income trusts actually increase the overall tax take to Ottawa.

This is because enough individual taxpayers receive their dividends outside RRSPs that overall they end up paying more taxes on the dividends, even at the lower dividend taxation rate, than Ottawa would have received from corporate taxes.
