The recent car accidents hitting buildings means narrower tires(or less tire contact on the road for more friction according to car weight) are necessary for better traction to stop on a dime. Since cars weigh much less. Also low profile tires are ugly and do not sell cars on looks.

Narrower tires also make gas consumption savings of a mile or two more per gallon. 13 inch tires give more torgue also to save more gas than 15-18 inch tires; which has to use larger engines to have sufficient torgue to climb hills.
