Norwegian shipbuilder sets Vietnam shipyard venture

Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards will establish a shipyard in Vietnam in a venture with Singapore-based Amanda Group to boost its position in the growing Asian market for offshore vessels, Aker Yards said.
Aker Yards will own 70 percent and the Amanda Group 30 percent of the venture which will build a new yard in Vung Tau, central Vietnam, Aker Yards ASA said in a statement.

"Aker Yards will invest $16 million over a period of three years," the company said. "The yard will deliver its first vessel in 2009, and will in full operation have an annual capacity of 3-4 vessels depending on vessel type and size."
