Japan eyes Vietnam investment, technology transfer

Japanese enterprises hope to invest in Vietnam’s infrastructure and transfer advanced technologies, Japan’s visiting Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Hiromichi Watanabe said in Ho Chi Minh City Tuesday.
Meeting with the deputy head of the city administration, Nguyen Thi Hong, he sought her assistance in resolving problems like labor strike faced by Japanese firms in the city.

Watanabe revealed plans by Japanese companies to invest in projects in Hoa Lac hi-tech park in northern Vietnam.

Through those projects, they hoped to transfer advanced technologies to their Vietnamese partners.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Japanese firms were involved in developing infrastructure.

They were working the East-West Corridor, the sewerage network, and other major projects.
