THAI will certainly have to be priced to make it worthwhile to potential adopters. It will have to compete with SAGD and VAPEX and nuclear (modified SAGD), but I think there is lots of room there to make it a compelling proposition.

If you had a property to develop, and could do it at half the cost, increase your recovery, produce a better (upgraded) product, with faster deployment, wouldn't you be willing to pay a 10% royalty?


Another critical point to mention is political. Assuming THAI works the government will be under pressure to mandate it for all future licences. At the very least they will have the Companies applying for the licences justify to them why they can't use THAI. THAI would be a huge positive political statement for the Alberta government - 'Look, we can bring you oil and reduce the effects on the environment'.

We should never dismiss what politicians will do to get a positive spin on something.
