Hi Frank,

"wireless Ethernet" was the market name for IEEE 802.11 in 1998, when the Wi-Fi Alliance was formed.

"wireless Ethernet" has never applied to 802.15, 802.16, 802.20 or 802.22

In 1998, 802.11 had infrared, frequency-hop and direct sequence spread spectrum. Annex F of the 802.11 standard apologizes for the fact that frequency-hop and direct sequence cannot operate in the same band.
