Hi Brumar,
The more i study the events of the years following 9/11, i come to the conclusion that the US does far better with a light footprint than a heavy one. I have always been skeptical of redefining the role of an army to make them nation builders. You cant really due that in a brutal sectarian conflict like iraq for example. US special forces can help the militaries respond to terrorism and that works. But i have come to believe that al quaeda is looking to suck us into insolulable conficts in which they can turn the populations against us. So they attack mosques and do sectarian killings and we get blamed by them as the cause. I think we have to rethink our FP going forward. I think the easy serbia win we had fooled us into believing we could do it all. ONe other point, if we have to go in to fight let it be for a definable major national interest and when we go in with our military lets go back to using massive force and leave the nation building for the post war period as with germany and japan.
