Al Qaeda simply speeded the process up, and oddly enough, our being there has assisted them, largely as the result of the policy of debaathification, especially in the security forces. You might say we dug the hole and filled it with fuel, Al Qaeda lit the match and tossed it in.

However, as many like to point out, how we got here is not so much the issue as what to do going forward. So even if it is playing exactly in Al Qaeda's hands, what can we do about it?
