Today it seems obvious to me that we do not want to do that. Therefore, we should leave the country and let them manage it in whatever way they want.


I think we should tell them when we are going to leave, and then offer to help them prepare for that exit. We don't need to simply evacuate. I still think 3-state solution is the best in the end, but others have different views.

For the Kurds, we need to work with them & Turkey.

For the Sunnis, we need to address viable economic issues.

The Shia don't need us. They are going to become a theocracy, and secular Shia are screwed. That is our gift to them.

Perhaps, faced with our exit, they will all suddenly decide to get off their duffs and make significant progress towards a secular, unified, democratic, Iraq. I doubt it though.
