I consider them one and the same. Never knew people viewed them as fundamentally different. I'd say the Vietnam War was largely an anti-colonial war to forge a united nation. It succeeded. Marxism will eventually fade from Vietnam as well, once the current generation+ has died off. Rather than talking about pawns of the Communists, you should understand that Marxism in most of these revolutions is an enabling fig leaf.
