I was explaining, not proposing. WW2 wars the country understands. We try to win by any means necessary and with little regard for the enemy. Since WW2, the wars we have fought have all been limited. Korea was a draw. Vietnam was a loss. Iraq is not settled yet but no matter what happens we will not achieve our intitial objectives. If you accept the above for a second and combine it with the hypothetical discussion i had with Gem yesterday regarding deterrence---wmd or mulitple conventional attacks on US soil deterred by a threat to destroy Mecca after allowing enough time for citiznss to leave.
American bounces from interventionist to isolationsist. When we are not in the middle of this spectrum, our policies are dangerous. But the imperative always is to protect the homeland. If there was a referendum in the US to use the Mecca threat to deter al quaeda from massive attacks here, what do you think the vote would be? IN those cirucumstances who do you think the country would elect, Obama or Rudy. I think its a clear yes and rudy so we are one terrorist attack away from a republican victory in 2008 and if it isnt rudy it just as easily could be mccain.
