In afganistan we fight the al quaeda and their proxy the taliban. In iraq we are fighting for and against the shiaa, the militias, the sunnis, the baathists, etc. etc. There is no clear battlefield for US vs Al Quaeda so we are doing more alienation of the general populace than we should and not having measurable success against al quaeda for as quickly as we kill them more inevitably appear across the porous borders that no one is willing to seal.
