Being at 2K feet, I am the designated wealth depository for SF Bay and LA. I expect to be severely impacted by oodles of worthless dollars, and maybe some precious metals. And an enormous amount of scrap steel.
Societal stability? Try instability and collective insanity. Water rising, or even just surging ashore in big storms, will come after a flood of refugees from drought, desertification, and decreasing food production. (EG, it is now predicted the the Himalayan glaciers will disappear in the next 30 or 40 years; there goes the water supply for a billion or more Asians and Indians. Message 23502990 Message 23484307 Once society steels itself to a few billion dead, and we recover some sanity, we can probsably save some of the more important cities with Dutch style dykes. SF and NO have a head start on the rest of the country. Then we can get serious debate going; should we dike all of Florida? Just mark the Island of Matterhorn so ships don't run aground? The Gulf Coast? A dam and canal for the Golden Gate? That would protect the entire Bay Area for a fraction of saving all of Florida. Bad idea, cuz the wealth wouldn't get deposited with me.(And, actually, the wealth of the world is in its land and resources, and the beneficiaries of that wealth are in the cities, but I digress, to tread water.) |
