and if we keep fighting one can make a case we further their ends, not restict them.

Since when has appeasement ever successfully prevented a determined enemy from persuing their agenda?

Sure, we could just withdraw into our little corner of the world and isolate ourselves from the fracas. But how would that stop these religious fanatics from continuing to assert themselves and their militant theology in the Muslim world?

LONG BEFORE 9/11, the Taliban and Al Qaida were oppressing the Afghan people. And once they had achieved almost total control over them, Al Qaida then commenced to use that country as a base from which to wage their war against the US, despite the fact that we hadn't been involved in Afghanistan since the Soviets withdrew.

So what leads you believe the argument that being passive observers is going to stop them from achieving the same thing in other Muslim countries?

Sorry, I just don't understand that logic. It defies human nature and the publicly announced intentions of the Jihadist movement to Islamic empire, via restoration of the Caliphate.

And when they achieve that Caliphate, if ever, what leads you to believe they will arrive at a "detente" with the West?
