Forgetting amhadijad for a moment iran is nowhere near as fanatical as al quaeda and their taliban regimes.

I would agree that the Iranian people, as a whole, are not as fanatical as those in charge of the government, but there's not a hell of lot they can do about it short of a armed rebellion. Peaceful (or even unruly) demonstrations mean nothing when the state holds the ultimate means of oppression.

But I am in favor of encouraging the Iranian people to peacefully demonstrate in VERY large numbers that would embarass the government, as well as make it unwise to perform their own version of Tianamen square.
