Our policy has shifted so terribly far towards unconditional support for Israel that we no longer have much hope of playing a meaningful role until we demonstrate in word and deed our willingness and capacity to call Israel to account when Israel uses our money and our weapons to flagrantly engage in actions that are not in keeping with what is left of America's sense of fundamental ethics. Israeli use of US supplied cluster bombs is a good starting point. Until we prove that we are more than just a larger and better armed mouthpiece for Israel, then we are just kidding ourselves that any progress can be made. Israel has given up and wants us to hate their enemies as much as they do. Israel no longer seeks peace and does not want us to seek it either. Israel believes in the use of force, and Israel wants us to support any and all force used by Israel. Israel wants us to use force, on their terms to meet their goals. You have to show that you actually want peace if you expect to make any progress. Disengaging from unconditional support of Israel is the very first step toward peace of any kind and on any terms.
