Do you buy into the second half of my post as well? In a subsequent post to nadine, i also said that there is something in the arab psyche that makes it impossible for our iraq adventure to have worked. I would add to that all traditional means to improve a nations situation wont work in the middle east. I have become an isolationist when it comes to the arabs. I dont think anything we do helps. I think we need to contain the problem and separate our policies toward moslem nations between arab and non-arab. The gaza civil war, the currrent lebanon action,the strife in iraq and especially the heroes visit nasser got in khartoum after losing the 67 war, have convinced me of this. We have found a region where we just cannot help. Even the Marshall plan would fail in the arab world. All we can do is contain, contain, contain---same for israel---and try to hang on to the oil while we convert away from mideast dependence. Now that is something we should commit to big time so mideasat oil will never be at the forefront again.
