Heard from friends in the Indian Navy : A captain rank person will guide the Nimitz thru Indian waters because they know how deep the water is at different spots. and flanked by an escort of 2 ships - 1 ahead, 1 behind. standard practice in Indian ports for commercial ships - There are folks called Harbor Masters - their job is to steer a ship safely into its berthing place on the docks.
