Explain why a 20 year old Iranian kid or 30 year Iranian mother or 50 year old Iranian Kurdish farmer has to hate the USA. They don't - I know that, and you should know that.

I know they don't hate us, it's their own government they can't stand.

Saying the average Iranian doesn't hate America is about as useful as saying the average German didn't hate America in 1939. The proper answer in both cases is, so what?

So what? Well, I guess that is a better response than your previous response (below), which you just agreed was wrong.

Iran has no intrinsic need to hate the USA

Yes they do. They say so all the time, esp. the Mullahs. They hate us because we are the Great Satan. We are powerful infidels and our power stops their global revolution. They go out of their way to insult us, stomp on our flag, and yell Marg bar Amrika at every turn.

So, to review we agree that the Iranians don't hate us. That fits well into my proposal of complete normalization of relations between the US and Iran, bestowing the same positive diplomatic and cross cultural ties on Iran that we currentl bestow on allies like Israel and Canada, and then attempting to influence/reform the country in ways that are in the US's interest from the standpoint of partnership. Same thing we did with China in the early 1970's, look what that produced a generation later?! China in 1995 is a hell of a lot more aligned with US interests than it was in 1965, and US influence over China, while still limited, is 100x what it was in 1965.

We should essentially try the same approach that we did with China with our natural cultural allies the Iranians, and toss our natural cultural enemies, the Saudis, overboard.
