Interesting that you say that since you reside in the USA.

The softwood lumber dispute between the USA and Canada was because the US govt declared we didn't tax our industry enough (stumpage) for trees cut. They insisted we (govt) charge more and until we did the US would and did assess a 28 % surcharge on softwood entering the US.

other public land activities will be coming under the cross hairs of 'fair share' review. Gold, silver, uranium, etc and other mining efforts will be scrutinized. And after that, the long term capital gains tax rate, etc.

I wouldn't get myself too worked up into a frenzy over this. A workable balance will be achieved and the world will turn as before. Actually, Canadians are quite reasonable and successful in their juggling of free market economics, towit their dollar strength and 10 th yr. of balanced federal budgets.
