Provincial tax rates vary a fair bit by province.

Bear in mind it is not all about the money. It's a societal choice. As much as we bitch and complain up here (myself included), we live here for a reason. Most folks up here are less concerned with how much more we pay.. than making sure it is not wasted. Note I didn't say unconcerned with how much :O)

That is why for all the rhetoric you will find that the differences between our liberal and conservative factions are more social and less fiscal. In fact it is easy to argue looking at the lineage of many of the big shots from the old Liberal party that they are/were the party of Big Business (as were the old Mulroney Conservatives).. It was interestingly comical to me that Stratfor heralded a sea change in Canadian politics when the Harper Tories got in... professing that they were the party of big business..

Yes it costs us to try and ensure folks do not get left behind.. and we pay a price in waste.. I like to complain about the waste.. but I don't mind sharing the health care load.

I was very ill as a young child before we had universal health care. About 15K in bills my parents were saddled with 50 years back.. Fortunately for me we had a large and close extended family to lend a hand. Health Care is why many Canadians think Tommy Douglas is the greatest Canadian.
