You misunderstand the concept of inflation adjusted.

Adjusting the charts using the pre-1997 method of calculating inflation would make inflation-adjusted oil prices even lower, not higher.

There is no evidence in that chart to suggest that oil prices have "beat the pants off inflation".

After taxes, an investment in oil has provided you with an inflation-adjusted loss.

Make money in the markets, but don't drink the Kool-Aid.
