WHITESANDS currently holds 73 sections of oil sands leases in the Conklin region of
northeast Alberta with an estimated 2.6 billion barrels of bitumen-in-place (Figure 1). The
well density has allowed McDaniel and Associates (WHITESANDS’ reserve evaluators) to
confirm the McMurray channel trend and to estimate contingent recoverable resources of
799 million barrels using steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology. SAGD is the
current technology used to establish in-situ oil sands reserves. The contingent recoverable
resources are expected to improve with the application of the THAITM process. Because
areas of the WHITESANDS leases have less well control, additional exploration drilling is
expected to extend the McMurray channel trend and to add oil sands resources.
