You can stop right there. The original debate was over L1 cache latency, not 10 GHz.

Anyway, Intel has long ago moved on from the race to 10 GHz, like you pointed out. No one is claiming that Intel's architects are all-knowing, but Mas thinks P4 and Merced qualifies him to be an expert on computer architecture.

I don't think Mas is even qualified to teach a grad school course on the subject, much less criticize the decision to increase the L1 cache latency on Intel's Nehalem processor.
