Bitumen selling for $100/barrel in Texas. Was amazed to hear in latest TXCO presentation that the bitumen from their San Miguel (Texas) SAGD pilot is selling at $100 per barrel to local asphalt companies. Currently there is an asphalt shortage and prices are high. Got to like the prospects of this San Miguel tar sand project compared to Alberta projects. They have coal trains from the Powder River Basin running through the property - so steam will be generated by cheap coal, not expensive NG. They have heavy oil refineries and asphalt plants nearby. Permitting is fast, and no pending carbon regulations. wsw.com
