"Do you see a 1 Billion dollar market in switches? Figuring $30K/switch that's about 33,000 switches. I think that there is strong evidence that this is hype, primarily from limited sales so far and the fact that nobody seems to be speculating on switch and adapter companies, although with Brocade not being a public company this information is more limited. Does anyone know if the switch companies have the capacity to produce this many switches? My guess is that they would actually have to produce many more switches, since I am sure that OEMS would get a better price." (from post #12,362) According to Brocade's latest release they have cornered at least half of the market: Message 2832370 They estimate they will ship 12,000 - 15,000 Silkworms in calendar 1997. If this is accurate, the billion dollar switch market estimate may also be.
