I agree that, over the millennia, ladies seem to have made an effective effort of weeding out undesirable males, and must have contributed to a general improvement of the genetic pool. But, one wonders if with our "new normal" situation, with half of the children being born out of wedlock - often to unattached single women - this process of selection still continues.

...I think what started the accelerating development of science and technology was the habit of writing things down. That led to an informational "eugenics" process, with useful info being retained, and it became possible to stand on the shoulders of the giants who came before us. Nowadays, we are already in the midst of an information bubble, with more factoids swarming around than what humans can digest. Millions of us are spending days at our high tech computers, twitting and chatting and listening to millions of pop music videos.... :)
