I was of the impression (1) the animal skewered himself while jumping a fence. Your assumption (2) that the picture was staged after hunting may be correct. But all the hunters I have known have been decent people, so I'll stick with the notion that the picture is consistent with that observation of Ecclesiastes:

Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come:
As fish are caught in a cruel net,
or birds are taken in a snare,
so people are trapped by evil times
that fall unexpectedly upon them.
