The iDtenT index today, Friday Nov 9, 2012, will open at 8964. This represents a fall of 1036 points, or 10.4%, since its inception on Oct 31, 9 days ago. This inception date is marked with a star above, and occurred after Apple had already lost 15% of its stock price and market capitalization since mid-September. On Oct 31 when this index was announced, it had a starting value of 10,000.

Conversely, the non-iDtenT index has gained 10.4% in these very same 9 days. Thus, in the 9 days of this tracking index, non-iDtenT investors have seen a 20.8% greater return than iDtenT investors.

To purchase shares in the non-iDtenT index one simply shorts Apple (AAPL) stock, and purchases Microsoft (MSFT) stock in equal monetary amounts. To purchase shares in the iDtenT index, one does exactly the opposite.

The starting date for this index was chosen based upon Microsoft product announcements made at least six months ago, namely, the release of Windows 8 and Windows RT on October 26, and the release of Windows Phone 8 on October 29.

The best investment decisions are based upon very simple ideas.
