I've been enjoying a new beer discovery called, BATCH19. It is tagged as "pre-prohibition style lager," and described as, "a bold, hoppy, yet surprisingly balanced lager inspired by an authentic recipe that dates back to pre-prohibition. When the basement flooded at the brewery, an old logbook was unearthed and recovered in the aftermath. Unharmed, it contained detailed beer recipes that dated back to pre-prohibition. One of these recipes is the inspiration for BATCH19."
I really enjoy it, and not so much because of the gestalt imagery of a roaring twenties beer wagon filling buckets to the brim with fresh lager amidst anxious patrons eager to give it a taste, wet their whistle, wash their waggle, or toast the treasure. It's just good beer! Some modern beer drinkers might make the mistake of comparing this to Samuel Adams, and I grant them that if one's range of beer experiences consist of comparing the flavors of Budweiser to that of Samuel Adams, then BATCH19 is going to be more like Samuel Adams. But, if one's taste palette extends to a range of designer beers, and one's liking is for bold beer flavors that roll across the tongue again and again before, almost reluctantly, being swallowed, then BATCH19 will not disappoint!
And surprise of surprises! It is made by Coors.
