Well, you could argue they would have plenty of money if the shinned a shoe, washed a dish, got an education and listened to their elders about how to move up the ladder rather than start cutting school in the 5th grade and never graduate high school as they get pregnant and have the do-gooders decide they need loads of money to take care of their kids while many of us saw not having kids in high school as one step of leaving poverty.

How many of our poor wear Nike sneakers? I remember the SHOCK when our HP group moved to a site a block away from East Palo Alto and I went to get lunch in the grocery store after swimming at the local pool for my noon Masters workout. First shock was the armed guard in front of the store. Second shock was all the fancy steaks they had which I didn't think I could afford as an engineer with a car loan to pay off and rent to pay... but people in front of me had their carts loaded with NY steaks and other expensive items that they paid for with food stamps.

People tend to waste money that was given to them rather than earned, especially if they can vote to have other saps give them more rather than work harder.
