I love the secondary benefits of gardening. Last year I made 35 quarts of salsa and gave most of it away - it turned out tastey. This year I have to grow more tomatoes and do more. I had a surprisingly good batch of sauerkraut too. I used the seeds from Germany on a type of cabbage used just for sauerkraut - it was very sweet . I had quite a few ask if there was more - so this spring I've started 100 plants from seed. They are ready to get planted now ,but the soil is still too cool from the frigid winter. I'm only 12 miles from Lake Michigan and it froze over completely last winter - very rare event.
