Pay for transit workers.....Perhaps it would be best for the people of San Francisco determine what the appropriate pay levels should be. Many of us are too far removed from the California economy to make determinations on the matter.

But change is happening....

The Republicans have been very successful in suppressing any minimum wage increases. But they are about to get whip lashed by over reaction in the opposite direction.

With weekly frequency articles are posted about CEO compensation reaching new absurd heights. So if a CEO can get 200 times the compensation of the average worker in his ( or Her ) company, why begrudge a higher minimum wage to starting hires? McDonalds adheres to a starting pay of $7.40 an hour for all employes while paying their CEO $15,000,000 a year. Do we get better chow from McDonalds as a result of this CEO compensation? Are we a healthier nation because of Burgher King, McDonalds, and Wendy's?

If greed at the top of the food chain is OK, what's wrong with those at the bottom reaching for more (in wages)?.

As I see it, referendums at the state level, are the back door to raising the minimum wage on the state level.

The smart thing for Republicans to do, would be to get the minimum wage up to $10.10 an hour now so as to
preempt much higher alternatives down the road from state referendums.
