"If a Republican gets anywhere near the White House, I'll be selling all my stocks, stuffing my mattress, and burying the rest under the backyard doghouse." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jerome,
Be careful about letting your political beliefs determine your investments.
A couple of months ago on the radio, I heard Bob Brinker [Moneytalk, a talk radio show] talk about people who have let their political beliefs about who has been elected to office alter their investments, and how this affected their portfolios and investment performance very negatively.
Personally, I recall when Bill Clinton became president in 1993. Barton Biggs, noted investment strategist for Morgan Stanley, was featured on the front cover of a popular investment magazine. His words were on the cover too, something to the effect of: 'Get your money out of US stocks: Bill and Hillary are bad for America.' His recommendation was to move your stock money into foreign stocks, due to Bill and Hillary.
Well, you recall the stock market performance from January 1995 through March 2000.
Barton Biggs was an incredibly smart guy, whom I respected greatly, but his recommendation was a mistake. |
