Its a very intersting and confusing period now for WFR. We have Asia, a very large consumer of semiconductors and a producer of them, collapsing. The general consensus is that semi companies that produce for the Asian market outside of Asia are going to be creamed, and companies that produce in Asia for outside the Asian market are going to do OK. At least thats a simplified version of it.
But WFR is an American company that produces wafers for all markets, and they have plants all over the place. And they have increased market share considerably, based upon comments on this thread. The market demand will continue to grow. And combined with this we have the fact that the Asians will have to postpone planned expansion of fabs and wafer plants due to capital shortages. So its a balancing act for next year. My prediction, which isn't more than pie in the sky, is that we will have a bad quarter coming up, but it will start to recover all through 98. I hope so. It's pretty cheap, and I still think downside is limited.
