Hi ETF....following are two examples of companies changing direction.

General Electric (GE) is selling off the financial business and also the appliance business. The have bought more manufacturing business from the French. (Alstrom). GE will be a heavyweight in manufacturing. (Gas Turbines, Trains, jet engines, MRI machines etc). These are high growth areas that the stockholders want to be in.

.

GT Advanced technology just reported earnings and everyone was focused of Sapphire and its use in Apple products. They should have noticed from the quarterly report that GTAT has over a $75 million dollar backlog of Sapphire making furnaces from China.

And secondly they should have noticed that GT will be launching their Hyperion machines (used for head and neck cancers) about the end of this year. The Hyperion machines could become a stand alone company with sales of 2 to 4 billion dollars by 2018 .

Intel is probably one of the few large companies expanding into new markets with specialized products that are not easily copied by others.
