Hi Bob.....I can appreciate you defending the company you work with.

The is zero problem in states that do not have to use sand and salt.
So in your way of thinking the whole country should pack up and move to Texas????

The blame is the sand and salt.

So you don't think that bad design by GM (and Ford and Chrysler) has anything to do with the problem?

There are parts of the body and frame on GM vehicles that are resevoirs for holding water. With a little effort by GM design engineers they could be eliminated.

I have restored a half dozen GM vehicles ( GTO, Malibu, Firebird..etc) and it amazes me that the design quality was so shoddy.

used to be plastic liners as an option in the wheel well and no one paid for them.
Why did GM not make them as part of the vehicle. GM does not care about customer concerns. If its off warranty its not their problem

There is a culture problem at GM (much less at Ford). I think you may have seen those survey's from auto parts suppliers.....Among 50 different car manufactures GM was rated the absolute worst manufacturer to deal with.

The market determines all
Poor consolation to all the families of people killed by GM poorly designed vehicles.

But there is a way out of this mess. (rusty vehicles). We could have contests in the northern states.....for the most rusty FORD or CHEVY pickup. The press would be the judge as to who made the most rust prone vehicles. This in my opinion would get the attention of the executive team responsible.

Its been tried....a few year back a disgruntled Ford customer parked his rusty Ford pickup in front of Ford's headquarters and it carried a large six foot sign elevated above the truck box that read... This rusty Ford pickup is Ford's better idea. It only took about a week for Ford to buy him out with a better vehicle. He was evicted from the executive parking lot...so he parked his truck in high visibility areas all around Dearborn.

I think that GM and Ford and Chrysler can be shamed into making better non rusting vehicles. They have had at least 60 years to solve the rust problem and done darn little.
