Hi Kirk, It looks like the solar stocks will do just fine.

The big news is that the oil sector has been downgraded at the very bottom of the stock price cycle.

us.rd.yahoo.com*http://www.thestreet.com/story/12972057/1/transocean-rig-stock-declines-after-bank-of-americamerrill-lynch-downgrades-energy-sector.html?puc=yahoo&cm_ven=YAHOO

This is a lot less than brilliant. I still own all the oil stocks I had a few months back. (ESV, RIG, NE, CHK, SDRL)

All are solidly in the red. vs the purchase price.

But there is a way out of this.

The quarterly dividends are the first part.

Writing covered calls each month to get some premium in addition to the dividends.

If the stock exceeds the covered call price (near expiration ) I will just buy the option back in the last few days prior to expiration. This is a seldom occurrence.

All of the above stocks are selling for about .62 of book value. RIG=.48, NE=.59, ESV=.66, SDRL=.64

Its just a matter of short time till investors notice the dividends and very low book values. History in these cases is worth paying attention to.
