Hey Kirk..we need some clarification here. about Brazil and Ethanol and Crude Oil...

Over ten years ago fifty percent of the cars in Brazil ran just on ethanol. Because ethanol was cheaper than gasoline.
Now ethanol is down to 30% market share, because a big tax reduction on gasoline. Now gasoline is cheaper than ethanol. All new cars are bi-fuel in that they can uses either product.

Keep in ming that crude is used in the production of many products such as plastics . How much goes into the automotive sector and how much goes into domestic products...i don't know.

The huge sugar cane plantations (200,000 plus acres each ) will be using their political power to even the playing field.

I did see an article yesterday that said the US import tax on ethanol from Brazil (.50 cents per gallon). has been cancelled.
The EPA said sugar cane ethanol is less harmful to the environment than corn based ethanol.

The downside of corn based ethanol is that it drives up the cost of beef and pork.

I suspect that the auto companies and the oil companies like things just the way they are.

How this all plays out I don't know.
