Well, as you might imagine, in a small town over time you get to know many of your neighbors, whether you want to or not! Mostly, it's good and neighborly to see the same folks at the library, the supermarket etc. And yes, I do volunteer here and there, am a part of a weekly writers group, an ad hoc kayakers group, and play music once a week in a local restaurant. For many, schools and school sports events are also important.
I've been here eight years and this feels most like community of any place I've ever lived. As Gary Snyder once said, if you care about community, don't move! Probably the most important piece of the puzzle...
