More thoughts.

I keep working on projects I put off during windsurfing season. Also the recent freeze busted a a sprinkler valve so I checked the local hardware store's online catalog and then got a more reliable one that is usually much more for the same price from Amazon. Saved the gas and the horrible gridlock traffic on the road clogged by Google workers testing the self driving cars, google vans and commuters to and from Google, Facebook and the other tech companies here. Save money and time.... no wonder Amazon is so high. My GF is finally getting good at ordering stuff there also....

What happens when most everyone goes out of business from Amazon taking all the sales from items like this?

You need service (my local hardware stores are great for getting advice) or a place to try stuff on...
I bought some nice trail running shoes to use for hiking. Tried Eddie Bauer but they were crap with a design hurting my feet (hence the sale price) so I had to go to a store to return them. Got a nice summer vest (now I'm an old phart with many pockets... but I can have my sun glasses, wallet and smart phone with me without a fanny pack) with the money so the trip was fun and my girlfriend loved shopping the outlets.

REI has a great return policy for shoes... I tried to break in a pair for a year and they gave me my $ back so I said I'd buy hiking shoes from them. Got a nice pair of Solomon trail running shoes that are also water proof so I can hike in wet meadows in the mornings here. Been breaking them in around the house like slippers.... very nice. Anyway, I ordered them online since my local store didn't have my size in stock on the last day of the sale... knowing I can easily exchange them. So... I expect great companies with good return policies and showrooms to try the stuff on and return for a different size to do well. Such as last year when I bought a closeout London Fog ski type jacket with a zip out insulation for like 2/3rds off at Macys.....

Anyway, I see many high end stores that have the great return policies and fairly honest customers to do well:

REI

Northface

Macys

Nordstrom

Costco (expensive for when I was cash poor but now they are great as they preselect high quality and give great prices so I save time with research)

etc...

while Amazon and Walmart battle it out...

Too bad I missed Avago... I worked at that part of HP and there were too many hard feelings from friends who stayed but were let go years later as they cut costs before the IPO so I didn't feel good trying to evaluate it. Hard to believe I left over 17 yrs ago!
