It is possible. If you look at the growth around our Silicon Valley, where we first grew fruit, then made semiconductors and now both are gone and we just pack in bodies to design and oversee the great stuff made with the chips to sell to those who consume the fruit grown in Mexico.... we're still booming.
We've had a lost decade, so why not a golden one?
In early 2000 the talk was of Cisco developing the Coyote Valley to bring jobs to where housing was cheap... a few years later their buildings in Santa Clara were empty and stunk from the p-traps evaporating allowing direct path to the sewers.....

Today we have the new SalesForce.com building in SF topped off now and dominating the skyline I see every time I windsurf.... and Google rather than Cisco is buying up land in San Jose to bring 20,000 jobs to the transit hub so the workers can commute from the Coyote Valley and points further South to the City... And traffic.... horrible and getting worse as they replace single story businesses with massive, 5 and 6 story developments where I live as they turn our once beautiful area into another Hong Kong... beauty but over crowded.
